Needless to say, that experiment was a fail. How the F_ does someone get $4k from an ATM, when I thought the daily limit was $500 or $1k? BOA tells me it’s some new ATM tech they were trying that was a virtual teller, and that someone could have held up a picture ID with my name on it. So I used it there.Ī few months later, I saw $4,000 get withdrawn from an ATM in Colorado (I live in the Northeast). I used my card 3 times, once at a BOA ATM, once at another bank ATM (to make sure I got the fee back), then I was in Los Angeles on vacation and didn’t know some gas stations there used to be debit or cash only. Neither T-Mobile nor the banks are in the clear. I opened an account at BOA about 5 years ago, where it’s debit or nothing, so I caved in. etc… and I have a big-ass mess to clean up! If my bank account has fraud, my mortgage might not get paid, my car lease might not get paid, etc. The hackers claimed one of those databases held the name, date of birth, SSN, drivers license information, plaintext security PIN, address and phone number of 36 million T-Mobile customers in the United States all going back to the mid-1990s. I had a T-Mobile 7 pro, and within 2 hours of booting it up I had it rooted with the bootloader unlocked, running wide open and beautiful. I had a old-school ATM card (non-debit), for the very reason that was enumerated above - if my credit card has fraud, I don’t pay it.
